As Macklemore said “She a big girl but it ain’t a big deal. I like a big girl, I like ‘em sassy”. The Saab 29 Tunnan and many others below are beautiful in my book.
Saab 29 Tunnan
Bell X-5
Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-9
Yakovlev Yak-15
Yakovlev Yak-17
Yakovlev Yak-19
God I love this song:
Moped awesomeness all over the place.

It’s so pretty, and it has variable geometry wings!

The Bell X-5 was the first variable geometry aircraft that could change its wingsweep in flight. It only had three settings, but still.

Hey, I like the Tracker/Tracer. Saw a few of them in the AZ boneyard a few years ago. How about a turbo Tracker?

And those three settings were:
1. Awesome
2. Slightly faster awesome
3. Fastest awesome

Ok I guess we’re doing ugly planes now.

How dare you call any of the V-bombers ugly. I love wing integrated engines.

Winnie Mae! A very cool plane.

The Valiant and Vulcan look nice. The Victor looks like some sort of deep sea fish.

Nice, but have you seen a B-36 in real life. It’s unreal.
I still need to see a C-5 or An-225 in person.

Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB has one, and almost every other cool plane you can imagine.

For some reason I rather enjoy listening to Macklemore’s ‘Downtown’. It’s the only thing even remotely resembling rap that I’ll listen to. Anyways, if you want big girls, there’s none bigger than the former USSR’s KM-class Ekranoplan.

I watched a documentary about the Ekranoplan project, they would’ve been terrifying weapons if they’d of had proper funding.
Technically they are considered ships though, if we’re being pedantic.

I like the Yak-15, it’s almost a fantasy jet the way it’s designed.
![]() 08/12/2016 at 01:13 |

But, but, jet-powered flying ships! It seems to me more like it was an awful idea with more backing than it was worth. I mean I love them as much as the next guy, but with only ten feet of clearance the thing was just waiting for a wave to come along and take it out of the air, after which the mighty Kuznetsovs would undoubtedly suck water and stall, leaving the giant beast a sitting duck in a rough ocean.

Yeah but as an anti-ship missile delivery system they’re pretty alarming. Hard to spot and travelling at 270 mph, it would’ve been quite a threat to carrier groups.

It’s kinda Star Wars pod racer-esque.

That’s for sure! Especially in the West where we had no clue what these monsters were it would have been frickin terrifying. I guess if you’re careful and check the weather religiously then they’re great, even as just an element of fear although they are a technical powerhouse in the weapons department as well.

E-2's are terrific, it’s just the asymmetric shape of the E-1 dome that disturbs me. The latest configuration is the 8-bladed prop which looks amazing just standing still.

With the KM, the front engines were just to get it airborne. The back engines could do the job at cruise speed. I doubt water ingress would’ve been a big deal regardless as jet engines can deal with water quite well.
Structural loads from hitting a wave at ~400kph would be slightly more difficult to deal with.

True, point well taken. The fact still stands though that it’s way too vulnerable to waves to actually be taken seriously as a practical means of transportation.
